Why pigeons need a tighter mesh than general bird netting
Pigeons can squeeze through gaps as small as 4-5cm, which is smaller than the mesh size used for general bird-proofing against crows or larger birds. A dedicated pigeon net uses a tighter 1.5-2 inch weave and seals every edge of the opening, since pigeons will persistently test any gap left at a corner or joint.
How the space is measured
Our technician measures the full opening including any grill bars, railing gaps and AC pipe penetrations that need to be worked around, since these are the most common places pigeons squeeze through if the net isn't sealed tightly at that point. Corners and joints get extra reinforcement stitching.
How the net is fixed
Netting is fixed using edge hooks, a nylon rope border and wall or railing anchors so the whole sheet is under even tension with no sagging pockets where a bird could still land. For balconies that already have invisible grills, the net is fitted alongside the cables without blocking the view.
When to add spikes instead of, or alongside, netting
If pigeons are mainly roosting on an outside window ledge or parapet rather than entering the balcony itself, bird spikes on that specific ledge are often a better fit than a full net, and the two are frequently combined — net for the opening, spikes for the external ledge.
